But you would have free choice of the type of terrain, distribution of grass and rocks, hidden holes, enemies, buildings and doors, etc. There should be some sample maps players can lay down as their default and then alter to their taste rather than having to paint an entire map onto a blank canvas. Possibly also the Gameboy Color Link's Awakening DX and/or the Oracle games' styles as well, if that could be done. Like in Mario Maker, you should be able to shift between the graphical style of the original NES LoZ, the SNES ALttP, and the GBA's The Minish Cap which were all pretty distinct from each other. That way you can have a central hub town (or wherever you want to place it) and spread your dungeons about as you see fit, as well as put in place obstacles and whatnot leading up to them. Rather than waiting like Mario Maker 2 did to include a World Map for their numerous levels, I would want a map that resembles the proportion of A Link to the Past's, but scaled down for simplicity's sake, maybe about 1/2 to 3/4 the size worth of outdoor areas. I want everyone to weigh in with what they would like to see, but here is what I am more or less imagining for an ideal Zelda Maker. But they're sitting on a potential cash cow here with something that would take extremely low effort and would not require them to actually fill in the essential parts of a Zelda game like story and completely new experimental mechanics. This is perfectly understandable and probably a good thing as it won't require them to expend resources on them in favor of making really good 3D games without it taking any longer than we're capable of tolerating. Since it seems to take forever for 3D Zelda games to get made, and with the Switch now taking over the roles of both home console and handheld portable system simultaneously, and with Mario Maker 2 raising questions about the future of 2D Mario, Nintendo is probably going to continue neglecting 2D top-down style Zelda games for the foreseeable future. Since there doesn't appear to be one (my search was far from exhaustive) I'll just see what comes of it by making one. I know I've been harping on this idea for quite a while but for some reason I never thought to look to see if there was a thread for it or to make one of my own.
